Our PCB Assembly Order Process

New Product Introduction (NPI)

Order is received, BOM (Bill of Materials) process begins, starting with validation of all part numbers.

Procurement, Receiving & Inspection

Procurement and receiving of components with efficient inspections utilizing our precision X-Ray component counting machines and automated quantity logging onto our custom ERP.

Kitting & Programming

All required material is hand picked and placed onto a dedicated job cart, your board stencil is also safely placed onto our custom stencil holder slot on the cart. The cart is then pushed to "Kit Ready". Simultaneously, our programming team loads the assembly lines with job information (board size, component placement positions)

Feeder Loading

According to our smart production scheduling, your job cart is moved from "Kit Ready" to the respective SMT assembly line to begin loading component reels (resistors, diodes, transistors, etc.) into our state-of-the-art SMT lines. Bare boards are loaded onto trays where they will be automatically pushed to apply solder paste.

Screen Printing

Solder paste is automatically applied to the respective side of your bare board.

3D Solder Paste Inspection (SPI)

Our screen print has built-in 3D solder paste inspection cameras to ensure complete application of solder paste and ensures no excessive paste has been applied.

Surface Mount Assembly (SMT)

Each of our 3x state-of-the-art, high speed SMT lines are fed programming data with precise placement instructions with 0.002% fine-pitch.

First Article Inspection (FA)

The first piece out of the SMT line will be manually verified by 2x machine operators to verify component placements with the original supplied BOM to ensure component polarities and rule out any deficiencies.

Reflow (Oven Profiling)

Oven profiles are created for consistent reflow process for your volume, insuring intact solder quality.

Feeder Unloading

Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)

Each board is put through our automated 3D AOI with high-shutter cameras to ensure there are no issues which may not be visible to the eye and output a defect-free product.

X-Ray Inspection

Assembly is placed in the X-Ray machine and run to confirm connection of BGAs and verify proper soldering.

In-Process Inspection

Conformal Coating

Semi- and fully-automated conformal coating process with careful operation & application by our conformal coating team.

Box Build

Experience with different types of custom box builds, including OEM. IPS can source the necessary components beyond the PCB to assemble your box build.

Testing (Functional, In-Circuit)

Before finalizing, each piece is run through necessary testing including Functional Testing for 100% pass rate or In-Circuit Testing per customer requirements.

Final Inspection & Finished Goods

Our IPC-certified CIS (Final Inspectors) ensure a proper final product before moving to Finished Goods. From this point, final builds are held at our climate-controlled facility or moved to Packaging.

Packaging

Our packaging team will determine the most cost-effective packaging solution for your finished goods with maximum protection including ESD bubble wrap or bags. Any customer-supplied components are counted & packed for return.

Shipping

(IPS Delivery, Customer Pickup, Shipping Options) IPS has the capability to ship wherever your finished product needs to go. We can hand deliver to your team locally (Metro Detroit), arrange a pick-up time at our Livonia facility, or ship via UPS.
