Building Tomorrow’s Workforce: Manufacturing Day 2026 at IPS Assembly

IPS Insights

This week, IPS Assembly proudly participated in Manufacturing Day 2026, opening our doors to students from Melvindale High School for a hands-on look inside electronics contract manufacturing.

Manufacturing Day, celebrated nationwide each October, is about sparking curiosity and helping the next generation explore careers in modern manufacturing. For the second year running, IPS used the day to connect what students learn in the classroom with the real-world production behind today’s technology.

Curiosity in Action

The Melvindale students brought real energy to the visit, asking thoughtful questions about printed circuit board assembly (PCBA), automation, quality control, and how a design becomes a finished product.

Our team walked them through the full process, from component placement to inspection and testing, giving a behind-the-scenes view of how electronics manufacturing supports industries from automotive and lighting to defense and medical devices.

Days like this are a reminder that manufacturing is about more than machines and materials. It’s about people, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Community and Partnership

We’re thankful to Michigan Works! Southeast (SEMCA Michigan Works!) for once again coordinating Manufacturing Day across the region. Their work connecting students with local employers strengthens Michigan’s manufacturing ecosystem and shows young people what’s possible in this field.

The Bottom Line

Manufacturing Day isn’t a one-time event – it’s an investment in tomorrow’s workforce. At IPS Assembly, we’re proud to keep opening our doors to mentor, educate, and inspire the engineers, technicians, and makers who will shape the future of American manufacturing.
