Inside defense manufacturing at IPS Assembly

Precision. Compliance. Commitment to the Mission.

Our Livonia, MI facility proudly supports programs for the U.S. Department of Defense and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) – specifically within DLA Weapons Support, formerly known as DLA Aviation and DLA Land & Maritime.

Every build is produced to the highest standards of performance, traceability, and compliance, ensuring mission-ready assemblies that deliver precision and reliability.

Whether it’s a wire harness assembly for a tactical platform or a PCB assembly for a communication system, every part we produce is engineered to perform under the most demanding conditions.

Understanding the Defense Manufacturing Process

Behind every defense contract lies a complex process that demands accuracy at every step:

  1. Contract Analysis – Each solicitation and technical data package (TDP) is reviewed in detail to ensure compliance with all MIL-STD and MIL-DTL requirements.
  2. Engineering Evaluation – Drawings, material lists, and specifications are analyzed to verify manufacturability, materials, and performance expectations.
  3. Controlled Manufacturing – Assemblies are produced in our Livonia, MI facility under controlled environmental conditions, with strict adherence to traceability and quality documentation.
  4. Testing & Inspection – Every build undergoes functional, visual, and electrical testing to meet military acceptance standards, including FAT (First Article Testing) and PLT (Production Lot Testing) when required.
  5. Packaging & Compliance – Completed assemblies are packaged per MIL-STD-2073-1E and labeled under MIL-STD-129, ensuring full compliance from production through shipment.

What Sets IPS Assembly Apart

IPS Assembly brings together over 100 years of manufacturing experience with a specialized understanding of government contracting.
Our in-house Defense Business Unit (DBU) focuses exclusively on military and aerospace programs, supported by dedicated cybersecurity controls, document management systems, and compliance frameworks aligned with CMMC and NIST 800-171.

We maintain a unique capability to manage the entire lifecycle of a defense build – from bid analysis to production and inspection – all within a single, integrated system.

This allows us to ensure:

  • Full part traceability from supplier to shipment
  • Fast, accurate quoting and build execution
  • Compliance with DoD data handling and security standards
  • Seamless communication between engineering, production, and quality teams

Built with Purpose. Delivered with Precision.

Each project we take on is a reminder of why domestic manufacturing matters.
By keeping production local, we’re not just meeting contractual obligations — we’re strengthening supply chain resilience and ensuring that the U.S. defense ecosystem has reliable partners it can count on.

Ultimately, every product we deliver supports the Warfighter — ensuring they have dependable, mission-ready systems built with precision and purpose.

Defense manufacturing is about more than components — it’s about trust, accountability, and craftsmanship.
At IPS Assembly, that trust is built into every wire, connector, and PCB we deliver. 🇺🇸
